Turning Technical Product Management Skills into a Force for Good

If you or a friend is either hiring or looking for a job please visit www.h1recruitmentconnect.com.

The Situation:

In 2022, the tech industry grappled with an unexpected predicament: over 93,000 professionals lost their jobs across U.S. tech companies. As uncertainty loomed, platforms like LinkedIn transformed into beacons of hope, brimming with professionals sharing concerns and seeking aid.

Amid this upheaval, a LinkedIn post from Eynat Guez caught my attention. She reached out, offering help to the affected. The overwhelming response to her post underscored a stark reality: the need for a scalable, structured system to connect job seekers with employers.

The Action:

Eynat’s post ignited my resolve to construct such a system. Drawing upon my background in product management, I envisioned an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) – a platform focusing on immediate needs while allowing for growth. Google Sheets with its universal accessibility and real-time collaboration features, became our foundational tool to intake job-seekers resumes.

The response was staggering – 500 resumes within a single evening. Yet, as the numbers swelled, new challenges emerged. Managing a burgeoning database and maintaining the privacy of job seekers became paramount. This is where Shruti Anand , a fellow product manager from Snowflake, stepped in, her expertise proving invaluable.

While some initiatives displayed job seekers’ data publicly, our ethical compass pointed elsewhere. Upholding privacy, we pivoted towards a ‘push’ model, proactively channeling resumes to recruiters and hiring managers through our personal networks. The success of this model was evident, drawing engagement from over 500 recruiters and subsequently more.

But, as our database grew, the system needed scaling. Recruiters voiced challenges in finding resumes with specific skill sets. Recognizing the need for a more sophisticated platform, Pranav Parashar and Manas Bam helped us bring to life www.h1recruitmentconnect.com. This site granted recruiters precise search capabilities, facilitating more efficient candidate discovery.

Our mission was clear: meld product management principles with a cause deeply personal to us. From data collection to privacy concerns, to refining user experience, our decisions melded empathy, foresight, and expertise.

The Results:

Prominent news outlets championed our cause, magnifying our impact. We have direct testimonials from 100 professionals who found interviews or expedited hiring processes via our platform. Nonetheless, we encountered hurdles. Comprehensive tracking of placements remained elusive. While we did deploy surveys, the feedback was often sparse. Another challenge was keeping our database updated. Many re-employed professionals forgot to notify us, leading to some redundancy.
